Planck Energies Is Revolutionizing Cooling Technology
MIE Associate Professor Yi Zheng is developing more practical passive cooling products to combat the negative effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He received a Spark Fund award from Northeastern’s Center for Research Innovation for this work.

Zheng Selected as NECAA Scientist of the Year
MIE Associate Professor Yi Zheng was selected as “Scientist of the Year” by the New England Chinese American Alliance. The award recognizes Zheng’s research contributions to the field of renewable and sustainable energy as an outstanding Asian American researcher and scholar.

Using Iron Powder as a Renewable Energy Source
MIE Professors Yiannis Levendis, Hameed Metghalchi, and Associate Professor Randall Erb were awarded a $600,000 NSF grant, titled “A Study on Burning Iron Particles as Carbon-Free Circular Fuels With Co-Generation of Value-Added Nanomaterials,” to improve the process of burning iron to produce carbon-free renewable energy.

Ergun Elected INFORMS Fellow
Ozlem Ergun, COE distinguished professor, MIE, was elected a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) for her applications of operations research methods to humanitarian and health systems, emergency response, and transportation and logistics problems; and establishing a community of operations research professionals with interest in public programs.
