MIE Assistant Professor Juner Zhu and MIE Professor Hongwei Sun are exploring how to better protect batteries from extreme temperatures by determining what happens during exposure and developing a temperature management system to regulate battery temperatures.

Research on Youth Homelessness Featured in ISE Magazine
MIE Assistant Professor Kayse Lee Maass and Alumna Yaren Bilge Kaya, PhD’23, (currently faculty at Columbia University) were featured in the February 2024 issue of ISE Magazine for their research on improving access to housing and support services for runaway and homeless youth.

Revolutionizing Thermoformable Ceramics
MIE Associate Professor Randall Erb and Jason Hoffman-Bice, PhD’22, mechanical engineering, are working on commercializing thermoformable ceramic matrix composites through their spinout, Fourier. Their work has the potential to transform heat dissipation in electronics. They received a Spark Fund award from the Center for Research Innovation at Northeastern for this work.
