MIE Alum Receives Distinguished Civilian Award
Mechanical engineering graduate Donald Hoffer was awarded the Distinguished Civilian Award, given annually to a civilian who made significant contributions to the work of the U.S. Submarine Force. In his 37-year career with the Department of the Navy, Hoffer worked on several significant projects, including the restoration of the submersible Alvin.

Northeastern Nominates 6 COE Students for Prestigious Knight-Hennessy Scholarship
Alex Bender, E’20, MS’20, Matthew Coughlin, E’25, Maya De Los Santos, E’25, Jose Meza Llamosas, E’25, Dominic Pizzarella, E’25, and Daniel Sneyers Pont, E’21, MS’21, were six of eight nominated by Northeastern for the Knight-Hennessy Scholarship, which develops a community of future global leaders to address complex challenges through collaboration and innovation.

ChE Student Receives Tau Beta Pi Scholarship
Madeline Szoo, E’25, chemical engineering and biochemistry, advised by MIE Assistant Professor Cynthia Hajal, was awarded a Stabile Scholarship from Tau Beta Pi, a prestigious engineering honor society, which supports students based on their academic work, campus leadership, and service, as well as their promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.

Maass Takes 2nd in INFORMS Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award
MIE Assistant Professor Kayse Lee Maass won second place in the inaugural INFORMS Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) Teaching Excellence Award. The national award recognizes excellence in teaching in operations research and management science.

$3.6M ARPA-E Award To Extend Battery Life and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
MIE Assistant Professor Juner Zhu, in collaboration with Dr. Fei Wang from Saint-Gobain Ceramics & Plastics (PI), was awarded a $3,677,038 ARPA-E grant for “EV Battery Lifetime Extension With Material Intelligence (EVERMORE)” in the Catalyzing Innovative Research for Circular Use of Long-lived Advanced Rechargeables (CIRCULAR) program.
