With only one awardee for each engineering discipline, this is an elite achievement. Alumna Develops Award-Winning E-Commerce Platform and Lands Job at Google
Fatema Janahi, E’22, computer engineering, MS’22, engineering management and Galante engineering business certificate, developed Palm, a fashion e-commerce platform in the Middle East and North Africa, received a 2024 Women Who Empower Innovator Award from Northeastern, and is working as a technical program manager at Google.

Alumnus-Founded NapSpin Aims To Reshape Restaurant Work
Mike Foley, E’17, mechanical engineering, developed and launched the startup NapSpin, which produces machines that automate rolling silverware into napkins. Now with support from Northeastern’s GAP fund, Foley hopes to expand beyond the restaurant market to hospitals, hotels, and cruise ships.

MIE Alum Receives Distinguished Civilian Award
Mechanical engineering graduate Donald Hoffer was awarded the Distinguished Civilian Award, given annually to a civilian who made significant contributions to the work of the U.S. Submarine Force. In his 37-year career with the Department of the Navy, Hoffer worked on several significant projects, including the restoration of the submersible Alvin.

Co-ops at the Ciba-Geigy chemical plant allowed Michael Feldman, E’77, mechanical engineering, to financially support himself through his Northeastern education and introduced him to the contact who gave him an opportunity at Hart Engineering, a company he still works for 46 years later as a vice president.
