MIE PhD Candidate Criss (Xiaoyu) Zhang served on the Program Committee and helped run the 2020 Around-the-Clock Around-the-Globe (AtC-AtG) Magnetics Conference, a brand-new virtual international conference powered by the IEEE Magnetics Society.

Student Donates Thousands of Face Shields to Front-Line Workers
Mechanical engineering student Max Seidel, E’24, and his friend launched Atlanta Face Shields during the pandemic to create and donate face shields to front-line workers, which he plans to continue to do now that he is back at school.

Murtadha Aldoukhi and Gupta Win IEOM First Place Paper Award
MIE PhD candidate Murtadha Aldoukhi and Professor Surendra M. Gupta’s paper titled “Flexible Model to Design Closed Loop Supply Chain Network Under Uncertainties” won the First Place Paper Award at the 5th North American International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management.

Using Augmented Reality to Train Workforce With New Methods
MIE Assistant Professor Mohsen Moghaddam (PI), Digital Learning Assistant Vice Chancellor Kemi Jona, Khoury Professor Stacy C. Marsella, Public Policy Associate Professor Alicia Sasser Modestino, and CATLTR Associate Director Nicholas C. Wilson, in collaboration with consultant Robert Roy, Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and Microsoft HoloLens Group, were awarded a $150K NSF grant for “Training an Agile, Adaptive Workforce for the Future of Manufacturing with Intelligent Augmented Reality”.
